Signal Arts Technologies is pleased to announce its release of Version 2 of its ground-breaking MIDI Analog Performance Sequencer (MAPS). The ultimate composer's tool with a feature list that offers composers and performers maximum versatility with total control, MAPS allows any composer or performer to create and perform in real-time, on-stage or in-studio.
Signal Arts' "MAPS fills a niche that was previously vacant, and it's one of the rare tools designed specifically to generate new ideas rather than to regurgitate preconceived ones" as Geoff Farina writes in Tape Op Magazine (#42). Reviewing Version 1, Geoff Farina (www.geofffarina.com) writes: "The MAPS is intuitive and easy to navigate... The MAPS also has extensive interfacing functionality... its real power is in its ability to use a set of relatively simple user-defined parameters to aggregate polyrhythmic counterpoint in real-time".
Version 2's new features enhance an already robust and versatile design while increasing the ease of the user interface. Some of the new features include new modulation routes, un-quantized step output, a CV input, additional memory, new sequence triggers and a sequence copy function:
New Modulation routes by channel allow additive, global and recursive sequence modulation. The user can now use many sequences to modulate one sequence which means more random output. Or, one sequence can now be used to modulate many others which means more global control! Many more modulation routes are capable between sequences.
New Detune 'DT' or un-quantized step mode. Users can fine-tune sequence CV step outputs. Each sequence step is tunable to 1/32nd of a semi-tone.
Version C2.0 hardware offers Control Voltage and MIDI controller input for sequence transposition, velocity (volume), and step time offset. Analog users can now plug in a control voltage, thereby externally controlling variable sequence parameters at will! Non-analog users can use this feature by way of foot-pedal or via MIDI foot-controller commands.
Force step note to one of fifty scales. With version one, notes were dialed up chromatically. Now users can dial up any one of fifty scales before they begin a sequence. As the steps of a sequence are dialed in, these steps will follow the scale. It's now easier to program in different keys.
Sequences can now be triggered by MIDI channel note number. Users can now assign a sequence per MIDI keyboard note. This renders sequence triggering more flexible.
Three programmable MIDI input channel zones/splits. These channel zones will divide the user's MIDI input into three zones - essential if your keyboard cannot output in zones.
50% more sequence memory. With version 2 of the MAPS, Signal Arts has ensured that no other comparable sequencer allows the user infinite tracks, modulations and multiple, REAL TIME versions of one sequence or allows the user to play polyphonically with only one sequence.
Signal Arts Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the table-top Signal Arts Performance Sequencer, Canada's premier MIDI ANALOG Performance Sequencer. Unlike traditional computer or stand-alone sequencers which regurgitate pre-composed MIDI tracks or preset steps, this sequencer is designed to interact with its performer in real-time.
With the Performance Sequencer's matrix, an infinite number of virtual sequences allows the user to create long, complex, periodic or non-periodic sequence patterns from just a few sequence steps according to Jeffry James, of Research and Development at Signal Arts Technologies. "More can be done with a small set of sequence values without the use of obscure modes and operators. Simply designed multiple sequence trigger modes will give studio artists and real-time performers alike, more intuitive, dynamic expression", say Mr. James.
With 16 banks of 8 sequences of 8 note steps of 6 parameters, multiple virtual sequences, per-step pitch, velocity, controller value, per-step duration and note duration, per-step slew rate AND a built-in, full-featured three-channel polyphonic MIDI to CV converter, there is no other sequencer in the current market like this one! The Sequencer's features will give the analog or MIDI user complete real-time interface and flexibility via continuous turn "encoder" knobs and LCD display for instantaneous access to any parameter. Its sequence step matrix will take the user beyond a simple MIDI tracker while analog users will benefit from this Sequencer's three channels of Control Voltage giving the ability to output vertical sequences with any combination of chord, single note(s) and modulators.
Dynamic sequence triggering and sequence modulation capability will make this sequencer the performance sequencer of choice!
